the key to that base, salacious retelling of how humans destroy their lives ... that's something people feel like can really, really effect them act a moment's notice.

becuase nobody's really in charge. there is no agenda and protocol.

people just do fucked up shit. it's about as real as it gets. and why it's news? because people want to know what people are capable of.

A few months ago I read an article on why it is safe to ignore the news. I can't remember who wrote the article, and it's been driving me insane trying to remember, but nevertheless the point still stands...

Like you, I came to the same conclusions about news and have the same pet hates (human interest pieces, celebrity gossip, scaremongering through rare occurrences, etc.) The aforementioned article made me realise that it is OK to ignore the news, as the important information - the big, important stories and those that will change the course of history in one way or another - will always transcend the bounds of traditional media. You will always hear about these stories; whether you read/watch the news or not.

On the topic of news, you may like Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe - a show that I was addicted to when it was originally aired over here in the UK, and that I wrote about here: http://www.lonegunman.co.uk/2008/03/02/screenwipe-with-bill-oreilly-and-adam-curtis/
